Newsletter 27.10.19.

Dear Friends,

Today’s Gospel is a school of prayer. Jesus tells us that we learn to pray, not necessarily from the religious person but the sinner. Prayer is about God and how I stand before God - in truth and in humility.

The Journey in Faith course will begin next Sunday, 3rd November at 5 pm in the presbytery. It is for those who wish to explore the teaching of the Catholic Church as well as anyone who would like to have a ‘refresher’ course.

We are also taking names of children for First Holy Communion preparation classes. Please take a form, fill it in and bring it back or send it to me.

This coming year, beginning with Advent, the Church is holding a Year of the Word. Throughout the year we will be holding events that focus on the Bible. I would like to set up a working group to organise these. Please let me know if you are interested.

 Father James

This coming Friday is All Saints; it is a Holy Day of Obligation. This coming Saturday is All Souls Day.

We welcome Jonathon Ellis who was recently received into full communion with the Catholic church.

Collectors - This is the final Sunday when we take a Mass count in each of our churches and record the numbers on the sheet provided at the back of the church.

It’s time to return your Missio Collection Boxes: please hand them over to Peter Adamson (Ayls); Maureen (Hov) and Sue Perrott (N.W) over the next two or three weeks. Thank you.

CAFOD Faith in Action Day - “Love is Civic and Political”. A day to explore the links between faith and politics, to reflect on scripture and Church teaching and be inspired by others and CAFOD’s campaigning and work overseas. Frances Hall wishes to thank parishioners at St Helen’s for their many prayers, constant good wishes, cards of encouragement and general kindness during the weeks of her recovery since her accident.

We pray for Mary Mountain from St Helen’s who died recently. We also pray for our sick parishioners: Joe Seely, Maria Wilby, Matt Butler, John Gowing, Teresa Farrow, Tom Ender, Derek Palman, Lesley Jarvis and Mary Carr.

We remember all those whose anniversaries occur at this time including: Roger Northway, Charles Thacker, Barbara Stringer, Gordon Summerhill, Reginald Wood, Anthony (Tony) Starmer and Cecil (Harry) Carr.

May they rest in peace.
