A little bit of Cambodia came to North Walsham on September 24th when we were delighted and honoured to welcome Bishop Kike, Apostolic Prefect of the Diocese of Battambang as part of his week-long visit to East Anglia Diocese. Staying as the guest of Fr James, Bishop Kike visited St John of the Cross, shared lunch with the Trustees of Support Cambodia and, in the evening, presided at Mass for the Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham.
In his homily, Bishop Kike spoke of the principle on which our Cambodian parish twinning is based: namely, friendship and prayer rather than projects. Father James, who concelebrated with the Bishop, reiterated this and reminded everyone that the twinning was for the whole parish not just for a few people and asked that we should all embrace and support it.
Bishop Kike presented Father James with a kroma [Cambodian scarf], a special stole and a ‘Christ the Amputee’ cricifix. After Mass, parishioners were able to meet Bishop Kike at a small reception in the Parish Hall and all were i mpressed by his charm, charisma and deep love for Cambodia and it’s people. A memorable evening, much enjoyed and appreciated by those who attended.
