Saisan is a community that has grown up along the disused railway track in Svay Sisophon. It’s an extremely poor area, prostitution and drugs are commonplace in the neighbouring streets, and children are very much at risk. There are two Catholic families at Saisan and the church is starting to have a presence, providing rice soup on a Sunday [Support Cambodia help to pay for this] helping poor families with gifts of rice. Earlier this year Fr Rajat established a Learning Centre here. It’s a basic building but it serves as a hub for local children to learn basic educational skills and receive some love and care. The group from Support Cambodia who were in Cambodia last January visited Saisan and helped students from the church distribute the weekly rice soup and conduct a ‘learn to wash your hands’ session with the children.
