One of the many refreshing aspects of Cambodian life is the pace at which building projects proceed – and the new Xavier Jesuit School at Svay Sisophon is no exception. Our parish group visited the site in late January so it’s fascinating to now see the plans being drawn, the soil experts on the land and particularly to see the team of people who will make this exciting project come to life: Father Ashley Evans, Father Kyung Yong, Brother Ham Toeun and others. Also in the pictures are Father Rajat [Parish Priest of Svay Sisophon], Father Totet [Vicar General, Diocese of Battambang], the Director of Education Banteay Meanchey Province and Fr Kajiyama Yoshio, the Jesuit Japan Provincial who visited recently.
A Korean video team have made an excellent short video in which Father Rajat [Parish Priest of Svay Sisophon] introduces the project. Go to www.youtube.com and put in ‘Xavier Jesuit School in Cambodia’. It’s well worth watching. In the words of the project team, “we believe that this project will help the youth [in Svay] to develop their talents and skills and to contribute to developing their society”. Our good wishes, support and prayers are with them.
