This week:
Father Heri Dies at 62. Father Heri Bratasudama SJ, inspirational former Parish Priest of Siem Reap, died on Wednesday 26th February in Jakarta. He was 62 years old and will be remembered for his unstinting service of the poor and wonderful laugh which never failed to cheer. He said once that he had not ” come here [Cambodia] to convert the people, simply to love them and to serve them”. And he did just that. May he rest in peace.
Daly Pol Marries at Pailin. Visitors to Cambodia will know Daly as generous friend, courier, guide, translator, fixer and so much more! So we are all delighted to hear she was married to Sarom Loek on Friday 28th February . The wedding, conducted by Father Totet with eight other priests and Deacon Ros in attendance, took place at Sacred Heart Church, Pailin. Congratulations Daly & Sarom – long life, happiness and success to you both!!!
Father Rajat Promotes New Jesuit School at Sisophon. The proposed Jesuit School, to be built on a 17 hectare site at Svay Sisophon over the next 10 years, is flagged up in a new short video released on YouTube on 28th February. In it, Father Rajat, Parish Priest of Svay Sisophon, explains why this rather different kind of school is needed, now, in Sisophon and the benefits it will bring to the youth, the area and to Cambodia. It will be the first Catholic School in the country, starting this year with the kindergarten and building up through the Grades, possibly as far as university level. A community learning centre is also envisaged so the whole community, irrespective of age, faith, background or circumstances will benefit. As Father Rajat says, ” we see God in poor people and poor people in God”. To see the video, go to: www.youtube.com and put in “Xavier Jesuit School in Cambodia”.
