Dear Friends
Today’s Gospel reading continues from last Sunday. The people seek out Jesus because they want more ‘signs’ as well as free food! Jesus speaks to them of food that lasts forever. They ask what they must do to have this food. Jesus tells them that it is not good works that count but faith. ‘This is working for God, you must believe in the one he has sent’. Throughout his Gospel John insists that it is the person of Christ that is the heart of faith and the true revelation of God. This is as true today as it was then. Our faith is centred on a person rather than a system of philosophy or morality. The Gospel passage ends with the solemn words: ‘I am the Bread of Life’ which we will hear more about next Sunday.
Thanks to all who came to the lunch in the garden. The weather was kind, the food was very good and the company was excellent!
God bless
Father James
