Dear Friends,
Today’s Gospel contains the call to radical renunciation: the giving up of possessions, family and personal ambition. How are we to understand this? To this day some take the call literally – members of religious orders who give a powerful witness through their vow of poverty. For us it is more about an attitude of mind whereby we put the Lord at the centre of our lives.
Father Gavin Small is returning this week for his annual stay in the parish. He will be here for four weeks which allows me to go away for a (late) summer break.
Next Sunday is Home Mission Sunday. We are not always aware of people who quietly slip back to the Church and the sacraments, often after years of absence.

On Monday 9th September at the Sacred Heart Church a Mass with the Anointing of the Sick will be held at 12noon. This is for all three of our communities. If you know of anyone who is sick but able to travel bring them with you.
Copies of the particular issues discussed at the Sacred Heart’s Forum Meeting, held on Sunday 18th August, are now available in the porch. Do pick up a copy especially if you were unable to attend in order to be aware of current ‘happenings’ and important issues affecting our church community here.
The annual Bike Ride takes place on Saturday 14th September from 9.00am – 5.00pm run by the Norfolk Churches Trust. Go to norfolkchurchestrust.org.uk/bike-ride for more information.
At the Sacred Heart could we please have a few more “recorder” volunteers to sign up for an hour in which to record riders/walkers as they arrive at the church. It really is quite a simple task and good to welcome the participants.
Calais Refuge Convoy – Rob, Clare and Naomi are planning to join the next CamCRAG Convoy to Calais over the weekend of the 21st September. If anyone has any clothes, particularly waterproof clothing, suitable for very slim men or women that they would like to donate we will be happy to take them over to Calais with us. Old mobile phones, sleeping bags and small tents are also very much in demand; you may like to donate to the Calais Refuge Kitchen who continue to feed at least 1000 refugees every day. Please ring either Clare (01603 897609 or Naomi (01263 834838 for further details.

The afternoon in the grounds of St John of the Cross Church last Saturday (31st), held in aid of Hospice Ethiopia, proved a most enjoyable occasion with lovely food, even without the roasted hog! Thank you to all who came along. The event raised £464 with further donations still to come.
