19th Week in Ordinary Time
9th – 15th August
Today’s first reading and the Gospel focus on the same theme: the massive forces of nature are under God’s control who has care for his people. Peter receives a personal invitation: ‘Come’. As so often in the Gospels Peter is portrayed as the one who responds to Jesus, yet his faith is shown to be inadequate. He is the one who is named the rock, who is numbered first among the apostles, who takes the lead after Pentecost, yet he is the one whose faith lets him down. Like the other apostles he is not shown as a super-hero but as a weak human being with whom we can all identify.
As numbers at the Sunday Masses are slowly increasing it is all the more necessary to book a place. Each church will now have their own co-ordinator:
Fran Ludden at Aylsham: fran.ludden@btinternet.com or 07849 602227
John Bolger at N.Walsham: bolger@waitrose.com or 01692 581516
Richard McGreevy at Hoveton: richardmcgreevy@supanet.com or 07730 817580.
It is not necessary to book a place at any of the weekday Masses and, since our bishops have dispensed with the Sunday obligation, attendance at one of these can count as a Sunday Mass.
Weekday Masses are as follows:
Tuesday: 9.30 at Sacred Heart,
Wednesday: 9.30 at St Helen’s,
Friday: 9.30 at St John of the Cross.
For further details, go to the Mass Times page.
Remembering Bob Maidment – Wednesday 12th August.
To keep everyone safe, numbers for the Mass at Ivy Cottage have been limited to 60, pre-booked only. Those who have already booked to attend the Mass have been contacted by email or letter. Anyone else will need to phone Katie on 01263 577784 to check if space is available. Please do not turn up for the Mass ‘on spec’ but calling in unannounced for a drink or bring-your-own picnic any time between 2 and 6pm is fine.
Remember to pray for all our sick parishioners: Maria Wilby, Matt Butler, John Gowing, Derek and Frances Palman, Kevin Fitzmaurice and Mary Carr.
We remember Graham Burdett who died recently. A Requiem Mass for Graham will be held at St John of the Cross on Friday, 21st August at 9.30 am. Places are limited and need to be booked. We also remember those whose anniversaries occur at this time: Stanley Duddridge, Winifred Foran, Elspeth Forrest, Brian de Soissons, Abel Almand-Chinn, Bernard Eyre and Dudley Hardingham,
