Dear Friends,
Today’s first reading and Gospel both have the same theme: that the forces of nature are under the control of God who has care for his people. In the first reading the power of the natural world does not reveal God; instead God chooses to reveal himself in the gentle breeze.
In the Gospel Peter responds to the invitation of Jesus but, because his faith is inadequate, he begins to sink beneath the waves. Peter is always numbered first among the apostles, he is named ‘rock’, he is the one who takes the lead after Pentecost, yet his faith so often lets him down. The apostles are not super-heroes who can manage through their own strength but are shown to be weak human beings with whom we can identify.
The re-decorating of the Sacred Heart church is well advanced. Sunday Mass is celebrated in the parish hall today and probably for another two Sundays. The weekday Mass at Hoveton (Wednesday) and Aylsham (Friday) continues as usual. Saturday Confessions are in the presbytery from 12 to 12.30 and by appointment.
