Dear Friends,
‘Who is my neighbour?’ the lawyer asks. He wants a clear ruling that would identify his neighbour. For him ‘neighbour’ meant a fellow Jew or believer. Instead Jesus tells him a story. The story contrasts legal requirements with human compassion. It leads up to the words: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself’. When the Lord came on earth he identified with injured humanity: like a good Samaritan, he took pity on us. He came to tend our wounds, to take our sins on himself and lead us back to God’s dwelling.
God bless
Father James
Today’s Mass at the Sacred Heart is a Family Mass when the children take major roles in the liturgy.
Today is Sea Sunday and there will be a retiring collection for the Apostleship of the Sea.
The Senior Citizens Group (NW) will meet to reminisce and chat about the future of the group: also be making final arrangements for their Summer Lunch outing on 22nd July, when they hope to be going to The Crown at Banningham.
Canonisation. John Henry Newman will be canonised on Sunday, 13th October. If anyone would like to be there I can provide details of a group pilgrimage to Rome from 12th-15th October.
Car Parking at N.Walsham. Parking at the Sacred Heart church is for parishioners (from all three communities) and people using the parish hall. For some time a number of people without any connection to the church or the hall having enjoyed free parking! This has sometimes caused problems on Sunday mornings as well as for funerals and other church services. Over the last month we have successfully tightened up on illegal parking. Parishioners still have free access at all times. However to avoid a note on your windscreen simply place an “up-to-date” parish newsletter in your car where it can be seen.
There will be a House Mass at the home of Michael and Elaine Haughton in Hoveton on Friday at 7 pm.
It is looking doubtful if our Parish Summer Party on Saturday 27th July, will happen! There are other important events (wedding anniversaries, for example) happening that day. Also there are not many names on the lists so far. If you wish to come along please sign up this weekend at the latest.
Summer Camp 2019 for 8-14 year olds is on again this year from Friday 23rd to Monday 26th August. Time is running out! However, the closing date is around mid-July. Please be quick and book your child in so they don’t miss out! For all information contact Lorraine Furmedge by emailing diocesansummercamps@gmail.com or ring Kerry Thorpe on 07504048352.
At Hoveton Elaine Haughton will be stepping down from her three-year term as a Parish Pastoral Council representative for St Helen’s. Please could we have nominations to replace her. We thank her for the service and support she has given.
