Dear Friends,
During Lent this year the Old Testament readings explore the theme of God’s promises to his people and how God has fulfilled them – the theme of the covenant. For us as we prepare for the celebration of the New Covenant these readings prefigure and offer insights into the Paschal Mystery – the death and resurrection of Christ. For Christians the broken body of Christ on the cross is a sign of that covenant. In the gospel the conversation between Moses and Elijah, who represent the Law and the prophets, is about the Passover of Jesus which was to take place in Jerusalem. The Transfiguration, when the glory of Jesus as the Son of God is revealed, was to sustain and strengthen the three apostles for the testing time that lay ahead.
I shall be in Scotland (theology course) and then in Liverpool (family) until next Friday.
God bless
Father James
