“We come nearest to the great when we are great in humility.”
On the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B, we reflect on themes of humility, service, and the Christian life. The readings guide us to consider how we live out our faith in practical ways.
The first reading shows the difference between earthly and heavenly wisdom. Earthly wisdom brings envy and selfish ambition, while heavenly wisdom brings peace and righteousness.
The second reading from James calls for peace and purity. It warns against jealousy and selfishness, urging us to seek peace and good deeds.
Jesus teaches the disciples about greatness through serving others. He places a child before them, showing that serving the least among us is the path to true greatness. The Gospel challenges us to put others first. By serving and loving others selflessly, we follow Christ’s example and live out our faith.
Fr. Peter.
