Dear Friends
For the next five Sundays we turn from St Mark’s Gospel to that of St John. The overall theme is Jesus the Bread of Life. The multiplication of the food offered by the small boy is in itself inadequate for feeding the vast crowd. But in the hands of Jesus it becomes more than enough—with some left over! St John clearly sees this event as a fore-taste of the Eucharist. Our gifts of bread and wine, brought in process-sion as the Offertory, are taken and transformed into the body and blood of the Risen Christ. This is an even greater miracle than the mul-tiplication of the loaves and fish and one that is given to us whenever we gather to celebrate Mass.
God bless
Father James
