Parishioners were joined by friends from Ely and Great Yarmouth on Friday 17th April to celebrate not only Cambodian New Year but also the very-much-alive twinning between Sacred Heart Parish and St Francis Xavier Parish in Svay Sisophon. The celebration, held at St. John of the Cross, Aylsham, was led by Father Philip Shryane from Great Yarmouth, mostly in Khmer and included the Buddhist customs of offering incense and bringing gifts for distribution to local needy people, in this case, the Food Bank. Father Philip read out a message from Father Rajat and spoke about the symbolism of ‘food’ and it’s central role in bringing people together both spiritually and otherwise. A beautiful and joyful celebration, much enjoyed by all who came. Pictures by George Straughan.
